Hyatt Herald Square
The Hyatt Herald Square is Hyatt's newest property in Manattan, opening its doors on October 9, 2014.
Despite the name, the hotel is actually about four blocks away from Herald Square at 30th and Broadway (between 5th and 6th Avenue). The standard rooms are minuscule, starting at 164 square feet, but the hotel is centrally located and usually offers the lowest rate among Hyatt's eight Manhattan properties.
Not knowing about this promotion, I had booked a one-night stay here later this month at Hyatt's non-refundable Advanced Purchase rate. But the promotion is only good using the standard Hyatt Daily Rate (in my case, $16 more per night). After a quick call to Hyatt, they happily switched me over to the more expensive rate and enrolled me in the promotion.
Hyatt Gold Passport points are (conservatively) worth about 1.8 cents each. All members also earn five points per dollar spent; Diamond members earn a 30% bonus on top of that.
By switching over to the more expensive room rate and registering for the promotion, I'll be earning an extra 2,604 points, worth about $46.87. Not bad for a two minute phone call.
Hat-tip to loyal reader Bert for letting me know about the promo (which first appeared on the Points, Miles & Martinis blog).
